Professor at Gwalior’s Music University Booked for Harassment; Accused is ASP’s Husband

Gwalior – A professor at Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University, Gwalior, has been booked for allegedly harassing female students. The accused, Professor Sajan Kurien Mathew, is the husband of a Madhya Pradesh Police officer serving at the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP). The case involves allegations of inappropriate behaviour and sending objectionable messages to students.
According to reports, a few days ago, female students at the university raised serious complaints against Professor Mathew, claiming he used inappropriate language while speaking to them and sent them unsolicited messages on their mobile phones. The incident sparked protests on campus.
The student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) joined the protest, demanding strict action against the professor. Although a university inquiry committee was formed to investigate the matter, no report has been submitted to date.
On Saturday, ABVP members submitted a written complaint and staged a sit-in protest outside the Superintendent of Police (SP) office, pressing for an FIR. Following public pressure, the Jhansi Road Police registered a case against Professor Mathew.
The matter has raised concerns over student safety and the handling of such complaints within academic institutions. Students and activists are now demanding a fair and time-bound investigation to ensure justice is delivered.
